“There is an old fort on the land of Bernard Brady Cloonlurg.”
There is an old fort on the land of Bernard Brady Cloonlurg It seems to be a double one. There are two rings of earth with a hollow between them. The centre is all planted with beech and elm trees. There are two openings opposite each other on each side of it. There is a local belief that if a person walks on the path between these openings after dark that he or she will go "astray."
This fort is facing a similar one on the lands of Mr Richard OHara Newpark.
There is a spring well just beside each of the forts and the old people say the fairies drink out of them. There is also a belief that the fairies in them sing on May Eve. Last May night Mammy + my sister Mary heard beautiful singing or humming and they recognized the air as being that of the song "Maid of the Nut Brown Hair."- Collector
