- The only unlucky day for buying and selling was Sunday. Money was always given, but often labour was given in exchange for goods. The luck money that was given was sixpence, a shilling, or a half-crown. Markets were held on any day of the week except Sunday. Pedlars and rag men visited the district but they are nearly all gone now. The articles that were sold were tea, sugar, tobacco, and snuff.
