  1. (continued from previous page)
he gave the farmer, who told him that in the box was a little mouse. He boiled the mouse and made some soup.
When he was boiled, he gave him a taste of the meat and to his great surprise he saw that all through his native land under the ground was rich in gold, and especially under his father's garden, there were piles of gold.
"Now," said the farmer, "is Ireland not rich?." "Indeed it is, I will now go home, and tell my father of all the gold that is under his garden." "Now", said the farmer "you will take some of the soup". When he tasted the soup, all vanished before his eyes, and he was left as before.
"Now," said the farmer with a loud laugh, "will you tell me Ireland is not rich".
