- Wakes in olden timesThe wakes in olden times were quite different to those of today. In olden times when a person got sick in a house, the doctors were very scarce and perhaps the people were too poor to pay one, and it was only a matter of time until the person died.At that time when a person died the people would not take any heed of it but they would say it was God's will and let it pass.If any person died there would be a wake that night and you would think that they were rejoicing more than anything else.That night the people gathered in, they sang and danced and played music,they also played music for the dead person which was very lonely.The people of the house bought(continues on next page)
