    Constant fights between the Fitzgeralds, and McCarthys, ended in a defeat for the Fitzgeralds at Callan, near Kenmare. Later the Fitzgeralds ruled Supreme.
    Desmond is to the west of River Maine. Desmond Rebellion Queen Elizabeth sent Sir William Drury to Kerry in 1576. Hospitality in Tralee, -- Attack of Kernes. -- In 1570 -- Desmonds ask help from Spain.
    Thomas, the Black Earl of Ormond came to reduce Desmond. Attacked from Dingle and Tralee side, drove all cattle to Ventry. 800 Spaniards landed at Smerwick Harbour, and settled at Fortdelore. Attacked by, Wilton, Walter, and Denny, and finished.
    Earl, now a fugitive, 3 yrs., caught near Tralee, Glounaneenty, and beheaded by Kelly.
    The defeat of the Spanish Armada -- before this Philip II of Spain paid £1000 for permission to fish in Irish waters. The Blasket islands is mentioned in this connection.
    All well in Kerry from 1599-1598. O'Neill defeated Bagnal at Callan, near Armagh. Tyrone made James Fitz. Earl of Desmond, Sugane Earl, supported by white Knight, Knight of Glen. Fitzmaurice, O'Donoghue, O'Sullivan and Mc.Carthy. Carew had headquarters at Carrigafoyle in N. Kerry, Sent Welmot to surprise Lixnaw -- Tralee and Liscahane. -- This continued till 1600.
