When animals are sold the buyer is entitled to luck This is called a luck penny which ranges from 1s per calf to three shillings per cow according to the age of the beast.
A bargain has always been made between seller and buyer with the help of others by splitting the difference between them and striking hands in the bargain.
Cattle are always marked with a cut if a scissors or a marking chalk.
