- (continued from previous page)A cure for lumps in the throat was to get salt and heat it well. Then put it into a cloth and apply it to the throat during two or three days.A cure for a burn was to get the white of an egg and apply it to the burned part, it was bound to the burned part with a bandage. It used to relieve the pain of the burn and it also had healing properties. A cure for "croup" a disease of the throat was to pull a thistle, cut off its roots, scrape and clean them well and then boil them well for a few hours. When the roots are very soft, strain off the boiling water. Then boil the roots again for five minutes or so adding a desert spoonful of brown sugar.
Pour the whole lot into a jar and give the patient two tea-spoonfuls of it everyhour.- Informant
