- (continued from previous page)The cure for sore-throat was to heat salt and then after putting it into a stocking to put it up to the sore throat.
A sprained leg or foot was bathed in a bucket of cold water.
The cure for a bleeding nose was to lie flat on your back and to put a key to your back and a damp towel to your nose.
To draw the matter out of a sore in your foot mix soap and brown sugar in hot water and apply it as a poultice to the sore. The cure for a colic was to put hot plates to your stomach and to drink whiskey burned in a saucer.
The cure for a boil was to put a poultice of yellow meal (hot) or to melt soap and sugar together and then put it up to the boil as a poultice. - The cure for a tooth ache was to put a clove or a bit of tobacco into the diseased tooth also to fill our mouth with tobacco smoke.(continues on next page)
