    Garlic was cut up into small pieces and given to calves in their milk to prevent them from getting the Black-quarter (Called in some places the Blue-quarter)
    When a horse got internal worms fine furze was cut up and given to them to eat through pulped mangolds or oats or hay.
    A horse that got gripe was walked fairly hard with a quilt- or some other such cloth spread over his back.
