- Long ago , the old people used to make their own light from tallow of the animals in moulds made by a tinsmith. They melted all the tallow in a big boiler ran a rush in the middle of the mould, let the tallow rest in the mould unitl it cooled took it out , then and lit it. Old cardplayers would pay a man a half a penny, for the light of the candle
