    It is believed that St. Patrick never went back farther than Glencar in Kerry. From this hill he blessed the west. These were his words:
    "Beannuighim uaim siar sibh"
    Note: "Gleann Ui Chártha nár fhás an tarrúin riamh,
    Uibh Ráthach grannda agus as uaidh siar
    Sin dhá áit d'fhág Pádruig gan beannú riamh"

    Many farmers placed snare spancils under a tub to prevent people from taking their butter by means of pisheogues.
    Salt was also put into milk for same reason + also as a preventative against "slinging".
    On May morning people vied with each other to have the first of the well.
    If the snare spancil was taken from the cabin it gave the thief power to take away the butter.
