    To breathe the spirits' treasure
To the memory of Shawn Day.
    When Famine, Greed and Tyranny,
    On Irishmen brought misery,
    And hunger, want and penury
Last on us all a gloom,
    And the wail of lamentation
    Rang through the Irish Nation,
    This utter dire starvation
    We seemed a living tomb,
    Coffinless and shroudless
    Our funerals all crowdless,
    With Pharaohs all around us
    Rejoicing at our doom
    "Twas then O' Connor's labours
    Were crowining all his neighbours,
And yet with prayers and praises
His tomb we'll deck and plume
As his body claims the tenement
    Erected as his monument
    Let every grateful penitent
Who knew him in his day
    Thro' sorrow give a holiday
In the "Mall" assemble for a day
    To raise an Irish "Crome"
