    bullocks strayed from Colonel Cronin's land at Sinnagh Ráí-Mór. A "paid" informer swore he saw two Healy brothers from Barradur 6 miles east of Killarney and half way between it and Rathmore. They proved that they were at Killarney market selling potatoes but their proof of innocence was ignored and they were both hanged near Barradur.
    A few days after the execution the bullocks were found drowned in a bog-hole at Clounts. When the Healy's mother was assured of the innocence she went on her knees in Colonel Cronin's presence and said "You'll die by your neck too but not by a rope but a far more agonising torture" Some time after he developed a growth in the throat. This caused him to be unable to take food or drink so he died of hunger and thirst. For many years after the death of Colonel Cronin Rathmore road was haunted and travelling after dark was often accompanied by fright after fright from something supernatural.
    On one occassion a man travelling with a horse and cart. Just at the Mill Cross a greyhound jumped from inside the fence and licked the spoke of one wheel. The horse stood as if rooted to the road and the man had to take refuge in a neighbouring house until morning.
