- About a hundred years ago the people wore no boots until they were six years of age. Some of the real old people were fifty years of age before they ever wore boots. The would go barefooted to the bog and bathe their feet in it. In the summer the children go barefooted to school and others put shoes on them. Most of the people wash their feet every Saturday night and when they are throwing out the water they say "Uisge Uisge rugaid an Uisge, Rith Rith rugaid an uisge to have good luck. When the people long ago were going to the town they carried their boots in their arms until they were near the town and they put them on there. Clogs are worn in the winter in this district.
