I have travelled old Ireland from the top to the bottom.
I've attended all weddings and wakes near and far.
But the jolliest spree that I ever attended.
Was a wake on a ragman that died in Lemgar.(2)
It was Red Mc Aree was the cause of the nonsence.
He died in Pat Rooneys and gave them a scare.
And the word was sent round with that fool Tarry Atty.
To gather all rascals that night to Lemgar.(3)
Before we set off we all bought tobacco
And filled our new pipes that we bought in the fair.
We met with a breadcart that was after being packed.
And we dragged it along with us down to Lemgar.(4)
When we got down to Rooney's it was'nt too early.
A fiddler was playing the Racks of Kildare.
And the young boys and girls were dancing and courting
And old men telling lies at the wake in Lemgar.(5)
Down in the room was a large crock of butter.
The boys gave a shout to send it round fair.
But some clever fellows that had spoons in their pockets.
They ended the quarrel that night in Lemgar.(6)
O course we had Kudy the liar from Lackagh.
