Long ago the road from Ballybay to Carrickatee was from Gray's House through the Demesne to Duffy the Barber's. The Landlord wanted this road private, so he had a road made from Gray's House passing the present Girl's National School to Duffy's. He employed men to do the work for 2d a day and from that to this it is called "The Two-penny Brae."
