It is traditional that when the Danes were in Ireland they could make very good whiskey out of heather.
The people were very anxious to know how they made it. Brian Boru drove the Danes out of this country at the battle of Clontarf. It is said there were three of them left after the battle, “a father and two sons”. The people asked them to tell how they made the whiskey but they were not willing to do so. They executed the two sons before the father’s face and said they would give him a chance.
Then they told him they would kill him also if he would not tell them. The father said “you can kill me now because I will never tell”.
