- Beside my grandmother's in Drumlougher, Co. Armagh is "The River Field". About thirty years ago, when the late Johnny Bailey was ploughing his field, "The River Field," he came across a flat stone. Digging down about four feet, he came to the end of the stone. With some difficulty he raised it up a little. He perceived a great amount of gold under it.
He continued ploughing till night came. Thereupon he went home, got a bag, pick, and spade.
When he arrived back at the spot, he started to dig for the gold, but he could not find it. It was supposed that the fairies took it away.
