    in Ireland, and it was in commemoration of the tradition of the Black Pig that our lake received the name of Muckno, which in English means, literally "Pig Swimming" or "The Swimming of the Pig".
    The Monastery of Mullandoy was one of great celebrity, and, indeed, one of its monks was afterwards raised to be Lord Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Martin, in Cologne.
    The nucleus of the present town of Castleblaney was the settlement around the monastery; but the town and townland were then known as Ballylurgan. Situated in the centre of Co. Monaghan, it was in the heart of the Mac Mahon's country - those Mac Mahons of whom O'Dugan, in
