  1. There are two forges in our district (Ture, Clones) their people have been Blacksmiths for a number of years. The forges are both the same with a galvinise roof and one fireplace. The smith uses a sledge hammer, borer, krippers [?], anvil, knife and bellow. the smith shoes horses, donkeys and wheels, and repairs harrows and ploughs. He lights a fire outside when he has wheels to shoe. When there were no newspapers the people used to go to the forge to hear the news.
