- Mrs Martin, Effamagh says that when Our Lord was going up to the Hill of Calvary the robin lighted on his head & began to pull the thorns out. It lighted when he stopped to rest & the Jews got it very hard to get it off because they did not want it to pull out the thorns as they wanted Our Lord to suffer. Another woman says that the robin only touched Our Lord's garment when He was giving the Cross to Simon & there was blood on the garment which it got on its breast.
The little birds follow the cuckoo because she is lazy & lays her eggs in their nests. Others say that they follow her because she is not an Irish bird. Others say they follow her because she says "cuckoo" which is an English word.
The thrush sings a song of charity before her breakfast.
