- In olden times there were three forges in the parish of Muckalee. One in Ballyfoyle, another in Wildfield and another at James Conway's Muckalee, Ballyfoyle Co, Kilkenny. The owner of the forge in Ballyfoyle is John Cantwell. The owner of the one in Wildfield was a brother of John Cantwell. The owner of the one at James Conways was Marums. The owner of the Wildfield forge now is, Mr. Patrick Foley, Revana, Castlewarren, Co Kilkenny. Their fathers were smiths before them. These forges are situated by the road side. The one in Wildfield is at the front of the creamery. It is beside a cross road. The forges long ago were made of clay and stones, and the roofs were made of timber. The tools that the blacksmith use are anvil, bellow, sledge, knife, rasp, pincers. He also has an apron to keep his clothes clean. The Black Smiths mends ploughs and harrows for the farmers, also he puts binding on wheels. He puts sets of shoes on horses and asses. Song(continues on next page)
