    When sons got married the land was sub-divided and another house was built. Tithes were collected in former times by people called proctors, for the Protestant minister. The proctors used to gather every third sheaf of corn in the field or take the cattle and hay. The people resented this very much and battles were fought called the "Hurling of the Tithes."
