- Penal Times
The local tradition of the penal days is that the Catholics of the parish of Donaghmoyne in the Barony of Tarney suffered the loss of their church called Patrick's which was confiscated by the Protestants. The Catholic clergy were then obliged to celebrate Mass and carry out their burial service as best they could in secluded places. As an instance of this the burial service was carried out in an old lane according to local tradition known as Gleann na Gcopp.
