- Long ago soap was made in the townland of Caherdean, parish of Ballyhar, Co. Kerry by boiling soda, tallow and oil together in a pot. When those were boiled they were run into a mould the shape of a bar of soap. The mould was made of tin. The mixture was left in it until it was hard. Then it was removed from the mould as soap ready for use.
