One would go to a neighbours well on May morning - the first to go there. Then one would skim the surface water from the well and take it home. The person who would do this was said to have the power of "stealing" the butter from any person. About forty five years ago a man in this neighbourhood who found it impossible to make butter from his cream told his parish priest of the matter. The latter said "It can be done", that is to steal the butter.
A basin of spring water was placed in the dairy every night, for the dead to wash themselves. If the water were not there they would wash themselves in the milk - so the people thought.(continues on next page)- Collector
