- (continued from previous page)They were considered to pursue the occupation of shoe-making. The following is the story:- One day a hunchback was passing a fort. He heard the Leipreachans singing within:-
"Dia Luan agus Dia Máirt,"
"Dia Luan agus Dia Máirt."
"Sead," said he, "and Dia Céadaoin leis."
The singers thought these words improved their song and as a reward they made the man physically perfect. Soon afterwards another man who was passing the fort heard the leipreachans singing:-
"Dia Luain agus Dia Máirt agus Dia Céadaoin,"
"Dia Luain agus Dia Máirt agus Dia Céadaoin."
Thinking he would improve their song he added the words,
"Sead agus Dia Dardaoin leis."
The Leipreachans thinking that this line destroyed their song, the chief Leipreachan ordered one of his subordinates to place the hump taken off the first man on the man who destroyed their song.
