Seana dhiadh spent the evenings making hurdles of splinters from the bogdeal then so plentiful. A bog deal hatchet was in every house and a fortnight was spent cutting the bog deal by the man and boys of the house. It was saved in the sun and splinter light was used by many a good scholar at night work.
