  1. A great Runner
The Old people tell us about a great runner named William Cuniffe who lied at Beaghterstown, about 2 miles from Rathcoffey N.S. He held the worlds title for a number of years. He ran several times in England. His last race was run in Dublin where he allowed himself to be beaten by W. Bacon. The posters of the day announced that 'Cunniffe was licked by Bacon'. He is dead several years now. I recieved this story from Mollie Reilly, who was told it by her father William Reilly, Painstown, Donadea, Co Kildare.
