- A StormIn the year 1903 a fierce storm swept over the country, particularly on the plains of Kildare. It was on the night of the 24th and the morning of the 27th February, 1903. It did much damage in that county. There are many woods around Clane and several old trees which were highly appreciated by the people were uprooted. A shed belonging to the Parish Priest, who lived in Clane at the time, was blown over a quarter of a mile away. A house at Firmount which had just been newly thatched was completely stripped and nothing but the walls left standing. There was also a slated cottage containing three apartments in the vicinity of Prosperous on which a tree fell. A baby sleeping in the part of the house on which the tree fell was killed instantly. Roads were blocked with fallen trees and it was impossible for people to travel for at least a fortnight.Mary Gill, Butterstream, Clane
