    henchmen. The tears and entreaties of the young maidin were of no avail. She was compelled to go through with the marriage. The groom in many of those cases was a man whom no girl would marry.
    This barbarous custom was condemned by all the people I heard relating the degrading and shocking custom. In cases when the abduction of the girl was known in time a big party of her friends pursued the abductors and after a big fight succeeded in taking her back home.
    The "Run away" marriage was of much later date than the "Force away which I am glad to say was not at all general.
