Down by the rivers messy bank their love tales there they told.
Or to sit beside the bridge and watch the fishes come and go.
Beneath, the shining waters of sweet smiling Carnadoe

Its well I do remember when the foot-badd game was o'er.
With the Kilglas boys and Pat Molloys on the meadows of Kilmore.
They would gather round some grassy mound when evening shades were low
To dance and play sweet music on the bridge of Carnadoe.

But few of them are left to tell of those bright happy days.
For some of them have left their homes and crossed the stormy seas.
And more are in the old church-yard where the statly haw-thorns grow.
Beside the shining waters of sweet smiling Carnadoe.
VI
I hope the day is not far away when Irishmen will stand together,
on the green hill side of their own native land.
To night the wrongs we've suffered long and to leave the tyrant low.
That wasted many a lovely place like sweet smiling Carnadoe.
