    I
Francis Higgins kept a donkey ass.
    This third years or more.
She strayed from him on the first of March.
And her loss he does deplore.
As I was walking on the road
    I met with Francis there
He was enquiring for his donkey
That was neither a horse nor mare
    II
Said he "I'll give you her dimensions
For her you might then see.
She carries her tail behind her
Where her head it ought to be"
    Said I "the Mr. Francis
As from you, your ass did stray,
    He's with another master
    In the town of Castlerea,
They were short for a good guardian.
    Secret societies in Ireland
To keep Whigs and Tories down. And your ass is highly honoured
For he billets in that town,
He has both hay and corn,
    A stable and a door.
