Invalids drink the well water when they have their stations performed. Long ago there were crutches left behind by invalids who were said to have been cured at the well but there is no trace of them now.
A few miles to the east of this well is another holy well which also gives its name to the locality in which it is situated. This well, as well as the district round about it is called Tubberpatrick because it is said to have been visited by and blessed by St Patrick when he visited Elphin and made it the seat of a diocese.
St Patrick is said to have baptised thousands of people at these two wells and about three miles to the south is the well of Ogula were St Patrick baptised the two princesses, Ethna and Fidelma when they strolled out for a walk from the royal palace of Cruachan.
A pattern was held for centuries beside the Blessed well in Tubbermurra on each 15th of August but on one occasion about a century ago a faction fight broke out while this pattern was in progress. This was considered disrespectful to the place and the pattern was abandoned as a result.
