weathered many a storm and give us a silent testimony of the skill of our ancestors as builders.
Round about the ruins the rugged mounds point out where "The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep".
The vast majority of the graves have no stone, slab or monument, but some have huge slabs of stone with inscriptions some of which are three hundred years old. Most of these slabs lie in a horizontal position on the graves and not vertical like the more modern tomb-stone or headstone. Some contain family names, no trace of which exist in the district at present, other than in local hills, lakes etc. This fact points out that they must be prominent in their day, but are now extinct.
A sad future of these old graveyards is their neglected condition. Nettles and weeds of every description seem to flourish undisturbed in them especially on the graves of extinct families. There is no hand to tend the last sleeping place of many who probably deserved a better fate.
