- There is buried treasure near Bessborough house under a small palm tree. A very rich man buried it. The money is said to be hidden in a stone water-tub. The tub was in a field for giving water to the cattle. The man lived in a lodge near the house. One night he and a male servent went to the field. They brought a stone spade and nearly all his money. They dug a large hole under the tree. They buried the money. Then the man killed the servant. He killed the man so that he would not tell anyone about it. The man's spirit is always minding it and when anyone is trying to get it, he appears in the form of some cross animal.
