- (continued from previous page)them annually by the Parish Priest. There is an old legend told about the castle, that a crock of gold is hidden under it, and a great many people went to look for the gold but they could not find it.
- Up to recently the people of this locality used to make their own candles. My Grandmother used to make them and she often told me how to make them. When an animal died she collected the tallow and "rendered " it in a big pot. She made wicks by plaiting three woolen threads together. She had a wooden frame with crooks on the end of it to hang the wicks on the frame. She fixed the frame over the pot of melted tallow. Then by raising the handle of the wooden frame the wicks went down into the pot and some of the(continues on next page)
