    mother asked him which would he have the half cake with her blessing or the full cake with her curse. He said he would have the half cake with her blessing.
    He then set off through the woods and as he got tired he sat down to rest and ate some of his half cake, while he was eating a little robin came and he gave her a few crumbs, and the robin told him that when he would come to a house he would see an old witch sitting in the corner. The witch would tell him to tie the hound and the hawk. The robin told him to keep the hair in his hand and when she wouldn't be looking at him, to throw it into the fire. So he went along until he came to the house. He went in and saw an old witch sitting in the corner. She told him to tie the hound and the hawk because she was afraid of them. He said he had nothing to tie them with and she said to tie them with a rib of her hair. He kept the hair in his hand and when the witch wasn't looking he threw it in the fire.
    They then began to talk together and after a while they began to fight and the man called on the hound to help him and the old witch
