    When the boys in black and amber joined the men in white and green
    Across the emerald sward they skipped in this phalanx of brave men
    As fair and fine in battle line as ever we'll see again
    When the band struck up soldiers song with heads erect and bare
    Before a record Gaelic throng the teams stood proudly there
    The coin was spun Kilkenny won
    The ball was set to roll
    And soon we saw Jim Darmody defend the railway goal
    Each time the boys from Garryowen launched out a fierce attack
    With lightning like velocity O Reilly drove them back
    Kilkenny's hopes soared mountain high when Larkin got the spear
    And lashed it down to Matty Power 'twas grand to see him clear
    No stag let loose no hound unleased
    Than Matty was more fleet
    And when he scoared Kilkenny roared
