- Marriage CustomsJohanna and Stasia Conway heard these from their parents in their home at Glenpipe.In this parish people do not get married in May because they say it is unlucky.
They always get married in the Chapel.
They usually have a motor car to carry them to the Chapel and back.
The girl goes home to the man’s home.When they are married a month they both go home to the girl’s house. They have sport there. They invite their friends and neighbors and give a party. They also dance and sing. They call that day the “Monthly Sunday.” It is supposed to be unlucky for the girl to visit her old home before the “monthly Sunday.”In olden times when two people would get married the man used to go on horseback to the Chapel and bring his wife home behind him on the horse.When people are going to the Chapel to get married some people throw an old shoe after them and other throw rice on them to bring(continues on next page)- Collector
