- The worst storm in living memory occured in the year 1839. This year is still remembered as the year of the "Big Wind". The storm began on Monday night in February 1839 and continued for three days and three nights and it is said that the people of Co- Kilkenny heard the people of Co- Tipperary speaking, the voices being carried by the wind which blew at the rate of 200 miles an hour.
Trees, horses, cattle, etc. were carried from one district to another and it is claimed that an old man(continues on next page)- Collector
