    went to her to try and persuade her to go home and this is what they saw. She was at the side of the pit and as they moved nearer they saw that she was bringing up something out of the water. The men hastened to help her, it was a little girl like the child that was drowned alive but unconscious. They carried her up to the mother's house and put it into the little cot. For days she howered between life and death but she came round after a time and the mother nursed and loved her and called her all the lovely names she had called her own child. She believed it was her own child sent back.
