situated in a field know as "Rillig" - (in which is an ancient graveyard). - Callan Moat in Westcourt demense about 40 or 50 perches from Callan Bridge is about 40 feet high 46 yards long and 24 yards wide.
It may have been sepulihal (some regard it as the burial place of Nial Caille 851.) It also served the purpose of a fort & was probably crowned by a castle. The original town or village of Callan stood in the shelter of the Moat(continues on next page)
