  2. A Thatcher
There was once a man named Mr John McBride of Kells who was a thatcher. He was also a carpenter; but his chief trade was thatching. He was a great man at thatching and he was in great demand during the Winter. He used to finish the houses very well and he was never idle. He was very honest about his work and very careful. When the neighbours around heard of the great work he was doing they all came to him asking him to go and thatch their houses and he never let them down. After a good number of years thatching he retired from thatching. After a year or so he fell sick and died. He is dead now about ten years.
