    a mile from Thomastown. Dysart Castle was established by Bishop Berkley on the right hand bank of the river Nore.
    In Jerpoint stands the ruins of an ancient Cistercian Abbey. It was abandoned at the time of the Suppression of the Monasteries in the year fifteen hundred and forty. it still holds many beautiful carvings. This Abbey was being built at the top of Jerpoint Hill but each night a large black dog knocked. The dog was followed to the end of the hill where he disappeared. The Abbey was built there and the dog was not seen or heard of more.
