far from Thomastown. It was built by Thomas Fitz Anthony and besieged by Cromwell. After two days fighting the garrison retreated to Grennan Castle and on the third day the Castle fell into the hands of Cromwell. This Castle has a dungeon which may still be seen people were fouly put to death in it.
In the townland of Jerpoint the ruins of a Cistercian Monastery are to be seen in which are many beautiful Carvings.
