    The origin of these raths is quite unknown and fairies are supposed to inhabit them.
    Some years ago a black cat was seen in the vicinity of Jerpoint rath. People tried to tame her but one flick of her tail on their hand was enough to disable them, thus giving her time to escape.
    Each midsummer, music is heard in this rath. It is said a candle lights the entrance, although none of the present inhabitants have seen it.
