Instead of travelling by road, Freyne took a short cut through a wood nearby. He met the man and ordered him to halt and deliver. The colonel trembling with fear gave him all his jewellry without hesitation and was commanded to return to Mount Juliet house. The robber retraced his steps through the wood and on reaching the house piled the jewells on a tray. A short time after the colonel reached the house and was surprised to find his treasures there before him.
