   Like seamen on the ocean tossed to north or south can't make,
   Along a ditch his course he speeds,
   With quick and measure deep,
   Nor thinks how boldly he succeeds in making both ends meet.

   It was a rath of circular shape that led him round about,
   Just like a doubling of a cape to where he first set out,
   and then he saw the foot prints made by him upon the snow,
   and he said "Perhaps these tracks might lead the way I ought to go,"
   So round and round again he went,
   And might have gone till day.

   But his good wife her night was spent alarmed at his delay,
   But some good neighbour glad top go for her good man to look,
