    As I went out one morning on the twentieth of July,
    To view the meadows in full bloom with an expectant eye,
    The small birds they did sweetly sing to chorus one and all,
    And the swans did glide along the tide in Charming Townly Hall.

    I did advance up to this place my heart was young and free,
    Where I did spy a pretty fair maid appearing unto me,
    Her eyes they were like diamonds
